Community Employment - Réidh Support Worker - Youth Work [Ireland]


 

This is a Community Employment position. Working 19.5hrs per week, if eligible through the DSP. Interest must be expressed through your local Intreo Office. Certain criteria is needed in order to be eligible for this position. YMCA Dublin has been working with young people in Dublin’s Inner City for 170 years. We run programmes in youth work, education, family support, community childcare and community employment. To support our services, we run two social enterprises – Dublin YMCA Gym in Aungier Street and Sandymount, and YMCA Childcare in Aungier Street.

Due to the success of our existing programmes and our social enterprise initiatives, we are looking to recruit a Réidh Programme Support Worker.

Successful candidates will report to the Réidh Coordinator and will work as part of the Youth Spaces team. As well as working with YMCA colleagues to drive projects forward and to bring the best out in people in line with the association’s ethos and mission.

Project Information:

Réidh is a training and education programme aimed at young people aged 16-30 who have left school early, are at risk of unemployment, are unemployed or are experiencing underemployment. Réidh supports youth employment and youth transitions through skill-acquisition programmes that aim to help young people to bridge and fill the gaps in their experiences and their CVs

Participants gain access to a variety of services based on their needs and interests. The programme is tailored to the individual’s needs. Services are offered in-house by our staff or volunteers, or through referral across our network of schools, ETBs, corporates, and partner organisations. Some of the services we offer include:

  • CV reviews and interview preparation
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • One-to-one support
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Work experience programmes
  • Independent living skills acquisition programmes
  • Workshops that provide growth opportunities to increase soft skills such as teamwork, communication, problem solving and time management.
  • Support with short and long term courses organised in-house and through associated ETBs and schools.
  • Peer support

You should be able to demonstrate the following key skills:

  • High level of motivation and the ability to work on your own initiative
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • The person will have the ability to empathise with, lead and motivate young people.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the group work process and will also be able to work with individuals in setting personal goals/developing a personal learning profile.

Key Responsibilities

  • To ensure that the programme, as delivered, reflects the values and ethos of YMCA Youth Work, as detailed in the Mission Statement and Youth Work Policies/Procedures.
  • To participate in team meetings and supervision involved in the programme.
  • To make a contribution to the ongoing development and evolution of the programme and participate in conferences and training as required.
  • Facilitate and deliver group sessions and workshops with young people aged 16+, facilitating the delivery of independent living skills and soft-skills training programmes.
  • Assist in completing assessments and introductions of youth into the programme.
  • Assist in providing 1 to 1 development support and monthly/yearly goal settings with participants.
  • Build and maintain relationships with young people, reviewing progress and goals alongside participants.
  • Contribute to programme reports and evaluations, contributing to the development of the programme.
  • Consistently be a positive role model to participants.
  • Any other duties related to the delivery of YMCA Youth Spaces.
  • To abide by YMCA Policies and Procedures.
  • The YMCA as your employer is committed to implement and review control measures to help prevent the control of the Covid-19 virus. You will be required to undertake training and retraining where necessary, as outlined by the YMCA.

Post information

The post holder will work 19.5 hours per week. Hours will be spent working in the YMCA Dublin.

Training is provided on all software as well as access to training.

Laptop provided.

Working hours required: Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am - 5pm

Hours are subject to change depending on the time of year, so the successful candidate must be flexible.
